Following the course of the Rio Grande, the Quebrada (valley) de Humahuaca is a unique and spectacular sight. Here, millennia-worth of erosion has not only created jagged and dramatic rock formations but revealed a whole spectrum of colours in the layers of the earth. The colours change throughout the day, giving this harsh landscape a magical touch. The valley has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003.
