When travelling through South America some of the main attractions will be Churches and cathedrals. In Colombia however they have a unique twist on this otherwise common attraction, it is located over 150 metres underground and dug out of salt.
An architectural wonder, The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira was built within the tunnels of an abandoned salt mine in the 1950’s. Over the years there have been various renovations and since then further wall carvings added to bring it to the stage it is now. It is certainly a wonder to behold with its intricate salt carvings and details and an attraction not to be missed while in Colombia.
