Exploring the colossal temples of Baalbek is to wander through many thousands of years of history.

The site has been used for worship since 9000BC and hosted Mesopotamians, Romans, Christians and Muslims, each of whom have left their stamp on this spectacular locale. The amazingly preserved Temple of Bacchus, the Temple of Jupiter and Temple of Venus, all Roman remains, are the most impressive of them all.

The beauty of Baalbek is that it exudes the feeling of being undiscovered, and that it stills has mysteries to be unravelled – just how did ancient civilisations sculpt and move the 54 23-metre-tall columns that comprise the Temple of Jupiter?

As Lebanon’s, even the Middle East’s, most spectacular archaeological site, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Baalbek should not be missed.
