Namibia’s most popular beach resort and coastal escape thanks to its cool climate and lovely beaches, the quaint town of Swakopmund sits between the great Namib desert and the wild Atlantic. Often swathed in the fog bank formed by the heat of the desert meeting the cold of the ocean, the town was once the main harbour of German South West Africa. With the timeless feel of a small German village Swakopmund’s charming streets, lined with 19th-century European architecture now filled with fascinating antique and curio shops, are a delight to wander, while the seafood here also exceptional.

Other than relaxing on the beach, there are plenty of activities in and around the town to keep holidaymakers entertained. Venturing into the desert, out onto the water to go fishing, exploring the local wildlife or taking a cruise on close by Walvis Bay are all exciting options.
