Reunification Express

Embark on an authentically Vietnamese journey

Vietnam’s 1700 kilometre North-South Railway, unofficially known as the Reunification Express since the end of the Vietnam War, is a historic train line that links the country’s two great cities, Hanoi and Saigon. The line runs through glorious scenery full of rice paddies, lush jungle, forested mountains, tranquil pagodas and even the crowded neighbourhoods of cities like Hue, Danang and Nha Trang. One stretch, between Hue and Danang, which hugs the coast and mountains, is considered one of the most spectacular train journeys in the world. More than the scenery outside of the window, though, the Reunification Express is an experience, rumbling along at a relaxed and leisurely pace, while you get to sit back, relax and take note of the life going on around you, on and off the train.

There in no single train service called the Reunification Express, and how you ride the line is up to you – as one whole journey, hop-on-hop-off, or just specific sections (like on our Vietnam & the Reunification Express tour).

Life Onboard

Life Onboard

Taking the train in Vietnam is like going back to basics in the most positive of ways. Low-tech, slow and relaxed, you’re able to savour the journey for what it is, to watch a film reel of beautiful scenery pass the windows, interact with your fellow passengers and even try a few local snacks! There is no better way to get a sense of the country, in terms of the landscapes, climate and even culture as you travel from one end of the country to the other while enjoying a genuine Vietnamese experience.
