Board the iconic train at the elegant Rovos Rail station before settling into your suite as the journey begins. Pulling out of Pretoria, the train will pass through Bela-Bela, also known as Warmbaths thanks to its mineral springs and Nylstroom, who's name derives from the Voortrekkers who believed the river here was the source of the River Nile. As the Highveld ends, the train will cross the Tropic of Capricorn and the Limpopo River, as it approaches the border between South Africa and Zimbabwe. Enjoy dinner onboard Rovos, an elegant affair for an ambient evening.
Continue your rail journey into Zimbabwe - head to one of the observation cars or an open balcony as it passes through scores of majestic baobab trees to reach Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second-largest city. Cosy up on the luxury sofas of the lounge car, enjoy afternoon tea, or sip on some of South Africa's best wines and watch the world go by as your journey continues.
Today you'll travel along one of the world's longest stretches of straight railway track, at 114 kilometres, which runs along the border of Hwange National Park. Disembark the train for a thrilling game drive. Hwange is well known for its wildlife and has one of Africa's largest elephant populations and regular sightings of lions, leopards and cheetahs. Back on the train, you can share your spots with your fellow passengers over after-dinner cocktails.
After a final breakfast onboard it's time to disebamrk as Rovos pulls into Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and home to the largest sheet of falling water, a truly mesmerising site. You'll be met and transferred to your hotel. Later this evening, enjoy a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, soaking up the serene beauty of this mesmerising African landscape. Keep an eye out for 'smoke' in the distance, coming from the falls themselves.
