Shinryoku - The New Green Season

The season before summer fully sets in and after the last cherry blossom petal has fallen is called shinryoku in Japan. Written using the characters 新 (new) and 緑 (green), the word refers to young leaves that trees sprout in the spring.

This is a wonderful time of the year to enjoy Japan's beautiful parks and gardens and a great time to view flooded rice paddies relecting the magnificent scenery.

May's weather is beautiful – warm with temperatures around the early 20s and mostly dry, whilst the landscapes across the country are lush and green. June temperatures are equally as pleasant with the occasional summer rains prompting an explosion of greenery at the tail end of the month.
