The season before summer fully sets in and after the last cherry blossom petal has fallen is called shinryoku in Japan. Written using the characters 新 (new) and 緑 (green), the word refers to young leaves that trees sprout in the spring.
This is a wonderful time of the year to enjoy Japan's beautiful parks and gardens and a great time to view flooded rice paddies relecting the magnificent scenery.
