The Cu Chi Tunnels offer one of Vietnam's most eye-opening experiences. A network of underground tunnels, hand-dug during the struggle for independence with the French, the tunnels are best known for their associations with the Viet Cong, who used them to strategically and methodically wage a guerrilla war against the government of South Vietnam supported by the US, Australia et al.
Beneath Cu Chi there are around 75 miles of excavations, used as living quarters, hospitals and communication channels, part of a much bigger network that is thought to stretch across most of the country – for an experience that gives a taste of the real thing, crawl through a section of tunnel for yourself!
