Well organised tour with an excellent guide. The sights we were taken to were excellent and the knowledge of our guide was second to non.
The activities of paper making, origami and golf leaf making were great fun and well worth doing.
A bit more time could have been spent seeing the lights and evening culture in Tokyo.
Unable to see Mount Fuji due to the weather and the boat trip on the lakes was badly affected, unfortunately there is nothing to be done that can affect nature.
The transfers to and from the airports could do with a little more thought
as travellers are weary when they arrive and not at their best for thinking how to get about in a new city.

Fantastic tour of Japan. Excellent tour guide and organisation amazing. Hotels good, transport good, coaches, boats and bullet train. Very hectic schedule but well worth it. Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima all excellent cities to visit with all meals included at authentic local restaurants and hotels. Japanese tea ceremony, origami and noodle making all excellent experiences. Mount Fuji amazing to see from hotel as cloud lifted especially for us. Lots of temples and museums as part of tour. Food takes some getting used to as lots of raw produce, especially fish. Lovely group of mostly Australians and all got on really well and have made some new friends who we will hopefully keep in contact wil via oyr holiday whatsapp group.

The lady picked up the phone straight away and guided me through the options available. It was so much easier than booking online.

Sumiko was an outstanding guide, blending her deep knowledge of Japanese history with a lively and engaging delivery. She adeptly answered most questions and proactively sought out responses for any she couldn’t immediately address. Her commitment to enriching the experience was evident in the thoughtful activities she introduced during long bus journeys—whether demonstrating origami, hosting short quizzes, or sharing insights into kimono traditions. Her ability to manage the group with patience and flexibility ensured a smooth, well-organised tour, always keeping the schedule on track. An excellent guide who truly went above and beyond.

We had a wonderful time in Japan where everything was taken care off and were especially lucky to have the fabulous guide Kay who made it even more special. We had one day of surprise snow followed by sunny warm weather what an experience. Got to see some cherry blossom on our travels. First time joining a group but what a fab group they were. Very happy.

We recently returned from a Wendy Wu tour of Japan, which took place from March 11th to March 27th, 2025. Japan is an incredibly beautiful country, and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring it.

However, there were a few challenges during the tour. The group size was quite large—28 people—and there was only one tour guide. While the guide was a lovely lady, we found that her English was difficult to understand, which made it hard for us to fully grasp the explanations and details she was trying to convey. It would have been helpful if she had been more fluent in English, so we could all have understood the information better.

Another significant issue was the food. Due to the large group size, the meals were often pre-cooked and served cold, which was disappointing. The food was prepared in advance, and since we all needed to be served at the same time, it resulted in cold dishes being offered. This was especially problematic for those of us who were unfamiliar with Japanese cuisine. It would have been great if someone could have explained what each dish was and how to eat it. For vegetarians, the situation was even more challenging, as they were often served cold tempura three times a day.

We also felt that managing such a large group with a single tour guide was not ideal. It was difficult for the guide to give attention to everyone, and as a result, the overall experience suffered. The size of the group limited the selection of hotels and restaurants, making the experience less enjoyable than it could have been.

While we were fortunate to be part of a friendly and wonderful group of people, by the end of the tour, the lack of hot food became a running joke among us. We left feeling a bit let down by the overall organisation of the trip.
They must reduce the size of the group so could provide better hotels at prominent positions and give better food experience so it doesn’t feel like you are on a school trip on a budget.

Although 78, this was my first big organised tour - I usually do my own thing - so really didn’t know what to expect. It exceeded my expectations, especially the hotels stayed in and the great and interesting itinerary.

All in all the tour was an excellent experience. It was expensive but there were very few extras required so it was good value for the standard of hotels, food and transport. Asa worked really hard. Nothing was too much trouble. She is an excellent guide.

My fourth Wendy Wu tour and the standard was as good as the others - good hotels, good itinerary, good food and an amazing tour guide made the trip unforgettable. Mariko was exceptional in her interaction with everyone on the tour. She gave us an amazing insight into Japan - culture and customs - her local knowledge was excellent - able to answer questions and give us lots of information and history.
