At the outset, due to disruptions related to events in Iran, our flights were rebooked and the tour was initially arranged to commence from Manchester, which is in a different country from where we reside. While this was subsequently corrected after it was brought to your attention, it caused unnecessary inconvenience and concern.

In advance of the trip, I requested a detailed daily itinerary, including start and finish times, in order to better plan and maximise our experience during any available free time. I was advised that this information would be provided at the introductory meeting with our guide. However, when I followed up at that meeting, I was informed that the group would simply follow the outline provided in the Wendy Wu Tours brochure. Consequently, no detailed itinerary was ever made available.

As our departure date approached, we encountered difficulty obtaining Chinese Yuan. Given your organisation’s extensive experience, I sought guidance from your team. The response provided referred only to British outlets, which was not relevant to us as Irish residents. We later discovered that a Bank of China branch was located adjacent to our first hotel, where cash withdrawals could easily be made using an Irish ATM card. This would have been valuable information to share in advance.

The hotels selected throughout the tour were generally not centrally located, limiting opportunities for independent exploration in the evenings. Clarification on the rationale behind these choices would be appreciated.

With regard to catering, the meals provided were predominantly westernised interpretations of Chinese cuisine, which differed significantly from the authentic food we experienced independently. It would have enhanced the cultural experience to include local or regional dishes as part of the group meals. Additionally, due to one vegetarian traveller within our group, three of the eleven shared dishes at each meal were vegetarian. This significantly reduced the variety available to non-vegetarian guests. A more appropriate approach may have been to provide a separate, tailored dish for the vegetarian guest.

There were also concerns regarding food service practices. On multiple occasions, meals were already placed on the table prior to our arrival at the restaurant. This raises questions regarding food safety and freshness, and may be a contributing factor to the number of guests who became unwell during the trip, including myself.

Furthermore, the provision of Subway sandwiches as an evening meal while travelling to Xi’an did not meet the expected standard for a tour of this nature.

Transport arrangements were, for the most part, satisfactory. However, there was a notable instance where a high-speed train journey of approximately 90 minutes was replaced with a bus journey lasting approximately four and a half hours. The justification provided—that this would offer a more immersive view of the country—did not adequately compensate for the additional travel time and inconvenience.

There also appeared to be inconsistencies in scheduling decisions. For example, our visit to Tiananmen Square was adjusted to avoid anticipated queues. However, a school group from Cork visited at the same time and experienced a waiting time of approximately 90 minutes. This resulted in an inefficient schedule for our group, with breakfast concluding at 08:20 and lunch commencing at 11:20, with food already laid out upon arrival. It was following this incident that I felt compelled to contact your office directly.

Despite the concerns outlined above, I would like to acknowledge the positive contribution of our guide, Michael. He demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and a strong commitment to supporting the group, particularly in assisting those who were unwell. His knowledge and willingness to engage were commendable.

In conclusion, while there were positive aspects to the trip, the overall experience did not meet expectations.

Accordingly:

I would not choose to travel with Wendy Wu Tours again.
I would not recommend Wendy Wu Tours to others.
I trust that this feedback will be taken into consideration in reviewing and improving future tour experiences.

The Wonders of China tour encompasses all major attractions and ‘must sees’ in China.
A plus is all meals are included, and entrance fees.
There are some optional excursions at very reasonable prices.
From arrival in Beijing to departure from Shanghai, we were looked after every step of the way, by our guide Sean, plus local guides.
I cannot speak highly enough of Sean. His patience was limitless!
Was the tour value for money? Absolutely - I am amazed Wendy Wu can offer such a quality experience, with top class hotels, all meals, many excursions, for the price.

Our guide was not very informative, we did not learn very much about Vietnam. The food was not very interesting and was very repetitive, especially if you chose the vegetarian option. The trip to Halong Bay was extremely disappointing, the accommodation was poor, there was a faint smell of urine on our bed. It was billed as a cruise, the boat was moored in the bay and we were transported to tours on a tender boat. Generally the tours were of pour quality definitely staged specifically for tourists. We didn't get to see much of the real Vietnam. Coaches were of substandard quality one driver got lost twice. The overnight train journey was good.

If you have done tours before this one is slightly different as Cambodia is a small county, with 2 weeks to explore it, this tour is more laidback than most. Febuary was hot 34c (we had no rain) and the tour guide made pervision for this. The excursions started around 08.00-08.30 and we were back at the hotel by 14.30 giving everyone time to chill and relax by the pool before going out for dinner at 18.00h. If you have never been to this part of the world it is busy and interesting, there is lots to see, do and photograph.

Very competent and helpful staff. Good value flight upgrades offered and easy and quick to book including flight seats. As a previous customer we had a great experience touring China and our national tour guide was exceptional. Lots of good authentic local food in local restaurants. Great company for escorted tours particularly China and far east.

I’ve just taken advantage of the current discounts being offered. Actually booked two exciting trips for this year. As usual your customer service teams are excellent, very polite and efficient. I know that the actual tours will be as good.

Where do you start with a review of a 21 day holiday? Overall, it was good, but there are things to be aware of when booking.
Wendy Wu is positioned as at the higher end of group tours in Asia but some of the hotels were below the standard I would have expected. For instance, the Lotus Blanc rooms in Siem Reap were damp, mosquito infested and the aircon control unit didn't work. In addition, room service although offered, was non existent. Other hotels were ok, but not really of a high standard.
Food was included for all meals but the timings were sometimes odd. For example, in Haling bay, we had breakfast at 7, went on a quick excursion and then had a full brunch offered at 9.30 - just so that we could get to an airport transfer. It would have been better to have been given a voucher for food and drink at the airport. Another example was the house vitit in Hue with a "snack" that turned out to be a fantastic meal, only to be immediately followed by lunch. Often, late lunches were followed by early dinners which seemed a little unreasonable. Also in regard to food, the constant set menus got so samey and boring, we opted to miss a few. A little creativity around the set menus would have made the food a much more interesting part of the tour. I have a lot more to say but have limited space :-(

I recently completed a wonderful group tour of Vietnam with Wendy Wu Tours, which I booked direct. The package was all-inclusive, covering all flights, accommodation, transfers, sightseeing, and meals. I contacted Wendy Wu Tours on 30/01/26 to enquire about information on maybe booking a holiday? Before i knew what was happening, the holiday was booked & paid in full!!! Flights, transfers, hotels, meals and visa all included!!! It may well be in the small print somewhere ~ but no mention that i couldn’t cancel without incurring a 30% cancellation fee the moment my call ended 🤬🤬. I received an email on 02/02/26 informing me that i need to sort my own visa!!!!!! I rang Wendy Wu tours asking for help with regards to the visa (as i don’t have access to a computer and printer) and the response from Lucy “well if you want to cancel it is in the small print in the brochure”!!!!!!!
So three days after booking i am now told that i could cancel and lose 30% of my money paid ~ just 3 days later and the ever so sympathetic (NOT!!!!!), Lucy can only tell me it’s “in the small print”!!!! After reading the letter again; Dear “name” thanks for booking, “WE WILL BE WITH YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY”!!!! I am certainly not happy 😡 with this behaviour and had i known beforehand about their behaviour, i definitely wouldn’t have booked a holiday through this company!!!!!!! Sorting out my visa application is a nightmare, made worse by my lack of a computer and my lack of confidence, but knowing that they are there “every step of the way” ~ that’s a joke, i could end up being out of pocket by hundreds and hundreds of pounds 🤬😡🤬😡

great attention to detail in finding the tour which included the greatest number of the places my Japanese friend had recommended I visit and then real effort to find the best possible deal on business class flights. I want to China with Wendy Wu tours last year which was Superbad I have every confidence this year's trip to Japan will be up to the same very high standard
